Contacts Backup

Lightning struck very close to my home, twice within a span of about one minute, and fried one of my circuit breakers in the wall, a DSL modem, my phone, my battery-backup power supply, and worst of all, my poor little Mac Mini.
The first strike actually sent a shower of sparks out of the side of the circuit breaker panel, and tripped my power supply over into backup mode. As I was in the process of turning off my monitors another strike went through the phone line, through the phone-line surge protector in the already tripped power supply, through the phone and the modem, and from the modem, across the ethernet cable, and through the Mac, and apparently back into the power supply, the wrong way, frying it, too, and making it fail completely.

It may have been a sympathetic surge of current in the cabling, and not an actual discharge from the strike actually following a real path of conductors to ground.

I hadn’t got renters’ insurance yet, but I’ve still got the paper work from the power supply, so I’m hoping to make my case there.

Article by Abiodun Onipede

Do you know anyone whose mobile phone had been stolen in the past? Or have you yourself lost your mobile phone? The answer would probably be in affirmative. If so, have you been able to retrieve the information stored in the stolen phone? Instances abound of mobile phones getting misplaced by accident or lost due to outright theft by robbers. Experiences show that most people forget their mobile phones in public transport vehicles, some misplace theirs in churches, mosques or large conventions while other were simply asked to turn in their phones when caught in popular spots like bars, nightclubs, and concerts by miscreants.

But a problem presents itself apart from the agony of losing the mobile phone. Have you ever wondered what happens to the contacts and other vital information stored both in the phone and the SIM card? Many a time when a subscriber had to ask for SIM replacement, it is noticed that even after retrieving the line, valuable contacts are missing but thanks to technological innovation, you can now save contacts using over the air technology.

It simply means that even when you lose your mobile phone, a technology now exists that can provide a backup from which you can retrieve all the contacts and information you previously had on your phone. In the past SIM copies used to do the job or simply writing down the contacts in your diary or saving into your PC but recent advancement in technological innovations now make it possible using WAP (Wireless-less Application Protocol), SMS (Short Message Services) or the internet to secure your contacts into a location from which you and only you can access when the need arise.

To be able to subscribe to this service, it is advisable that your phone should be SyncML compliant and should also have a WAP provision. Most Nokia, Samsung, Sonny-Ericsson and Sagem support this application. With this innovation, losing valuable contacts and information permanently will be a thing of the past among the various networks subscribers.

I can not stress enough how important it is to have your phone contacts and valuable information back up because it is better imagine than experience. Personally, i will tell you experience is not the best teacher in this instance back of your phone contact it is. Even if your phone do not have SyncML and WAP provision, i will advice that you go traditional way of writing every of your phone contacts in a well kept booklet.
